The Gemserv brand will be retired, as the consultancy adopts the corporate identity of its parent company Talan. The news comes as Talan looks to double the size of its UK operations.

International consulting group Talan acquired Gemserv in 2023, attracted by its capabilities in energy advisory and low carbon technology. As part of the company’s next phase of growth, Gemserv will now operate under the Talan name.

Talan employs more than 450 people in the UK and saw a turnover over £50 million in 2024. Incorporating Gemserv, Talan is looking to expand its local presence and aims to employ more than 1,000 people by 2030.

The move will see Alex Goody – who had been with Gemserv since 2012, becoming CEO in 2018 – designated as CEO of Talan Consulting in the UK. He will remain part of the Talan UK Committee, which he joined at the point of acquisition, and will helm Talan’s operations in the UK alongside Jacqueline Hoey, CEO of Talan Data.

Speaking on the changes, Goody commented, “When Gemserv joined Talan, it was a meeting of minds and skills in sustainability and technology. The companies’ principles fit together well, championing both the power of people and innovative technologies to deliver real-world results. As Gemserv, we were proud to continue with this approach under the Talan umbrella over the last two years. Becoming Talan in the UK marks the next phase of growth and progression for the company.”

The announcement comes as Talan marks its twentieth anniversary in the UK. Born out of Talan Group, which currently employs 7,000 people across 21 countries, the UK operation specialises in data, technology and consultancy, working with business and public sector clients. Alongside Gemserv’s energy sector, cyber and digital service expertise, the realignment sees those services complemented by Talan’s specialism in data and artificial intelligence (AI), helping companies to tackle real problems and build lasting capability.

Mikael Thepaut, Talan group chief operating officer, stated, “We identified clear synergies between the two companies from the outset, and this has been proven over the past two years as Gemserv has continued to deliver outstanding results for clients predominantly in the energy and digital space.”

“In bringing this expertise together under the Talan brand here in the UK, we welcome further opportunities to combine and improve our capabilities and continue the journey of using technology to enrich peoples’ lives and solve some of the greatest challenges of our time.”
