Transport and mobility: putting data to work for passenger flows
CHALLENGES
Our customer is a European passenger transport company. To meet the new challenges of improving urban flows in the city of tomorrow, our customer wanted us to build a technical infrastructure capable of working as near as possible to real time for the measurement, collection, processing and visualisation of data related to the flow of people inside stations.
Their aim was to move from an “unguided flows” model to a “managed flows” model by including other transport services at the stations, such as taxi companies. With this in mind, our customer’s first project was to better manage how taxi service availability matches with passenger arrivals at the station. The objective was to provide relevant information in real time to the various users (passengers, taxi drivers, etc.).
SOLUTIONS - RESULTS
The Talan Data teams worked on setting up a new automatic taxi pick-up service based on passenger flows in stations. This makes it possible to improve how taxis are routed ahead of time to city stations. From the passenger's point of view, information is relayed earlier (display) to optimise waiting times and routing to the main pick-up points.
Our teams analysed and implemented the Microsoft Azure IoT and Data Platform architecture connected to physical sensors in stations. Using agile development, the MVP was delivered in 10 2-week sprints.
