Meeting with Guillaume Laborier, Operations Manager at Talan Suisse

In this employee testimonial, Guillaume Laborier looks back on his career and his arrival at Talan Suisse as Operations Manager.

Can you describe your career in a few lines

I graduated from general engineering studies at Arts et Métiers Paristech. I also completed a Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering in Bristol, UK.

I immersed myself in IT out of passion during my studies by launching a web information platform on “grandes écoles” and universities. Beyond the entrepreneurial project, I managed the implementation of the platform, which allowed me to experiment with many aspects of the developer profession.

I joined Talan Paris in 2008 as a business analyst consultant participating in the first Nearshoring project with Tunisia. The aim was to develop an application for managing French LNG terminals for Engie. Talan was still a very small company with 120 consultants. It was the start-up of Talan Tunis : a great experience.

In 2010, in a utility services company, I undertook a BA and Functional Architecture mission on the management system for the services of the French electricity distribution network. We supported the liberalization of the French electricity market while modularizing the application using a DDD approach.

In 2013, I took the lead on the program Agile transformation. During 2 years, we transformed a 120 people waterfall organisation into 12 scrum features teams : we supported people, set up continuous delivery, automated tests, created communities of practice. A huge challenge, not without difficulties, but a success !

I then took on the role of Product Manager of the program to put together a team of 12 Product Owners and 12 QA testers and took charge of the business issues related in particular to the arrival of Linky smart electricity meters. We continued refoactoring the product using a micro-services approach in order to gain even more agility. It was also an opportunity to implement product management practices at scale.

From 2017, alongside my customer missions, I developed the Agile community and offers within Talan Operations : Product Owner, Scrum Master and Agile Coach roles.

Since 2019, I have carried out several Agile consulting and coaching missions with customers in energy, public services and transport. I also launched two initiatives : « Talan Inside », which is reinventing in between missions time, and « Communautés by Talan », which catalyses and facilitates access to expertise within the group. Two great projects which are currently deployed !

What will be your role as Operations Director at Talan Suisse ?

Our businesses are changing very quickly. Our customers have growing needs related to the challenges of digital transformation.

In order to provide value as a digital services company, we must listen to customer needs, train regularly, share practices and be visionary in order to provide the best advice on our customers’ product, technical and methodological decisions. Our internal organisation and practices must enable us to meet these challenges. The Director of Operations is the catalyst for this success.

I will therefore work as closely as possible with consultants, sales teams, recruitment and customers in order to contribute to the growth and development of the Talan Switzerland brand. My main focus will be to enable our talents to grow and deploy their potential, continue to attract new talents while diversifying our offers and developing projects with high added value for our customers.

After 13 years at Talan Paris, what will your experience bring at Talan Switzerland ?

Since I started at Talan, I have had the opportunity to reach out to many IT professions within major French groups. This has allowed me to experiment with a wide range of practices and understand the challenges faced by customer organisations from different angles : human, business, functional, technical, organisational, methodological and managerial. I am delighted to use this experience to the benefit of our team and our Swiss customers.

Furthermore, knowing the culture, organisation and history of Talan well, I would like to contribute to developing synergies between Talan Switzerland and the rest of the group.

What 3 words would you choose to introduce Talan ?

Collective : a strong spirit of mutual assistance and sharing in our teams and for our customers

Human : human proximity, particularly in management, instilled from the birth of the company by our founders

Entrepreneurship : freedom to undertake, promotion of initiatives

A strong memory since you started at Talan?

Beyond the trips, evenings and events that have left good memories, my first mission with the emergence of Talan Tunisia. We have made an enormous amount of trips to and from Tunis in order to work in close proximity. It was an intense mission, we were a small team, we created something new, which has grown well since then !
