About Structube

Structube is a retailer specializing in modern furniture and accessories. The company’s mission is to offer a range of state-of-the-art furniture and accessories at the best possible price. Founded in 1974, Structube started out on the market with only one store, located at the intersection of Sherbrooke Street and Park Avenue in Montreal. Over time, this small family business has become a flourishing retailer, now Canada’s leader in contemporary furniture.

Goals and Challenges

Before implementing an integrated solution, transactions for all the warehouse operations were conducted manually with paper reports. Moreover, the company had to rely on employees’ memories to manage warehouse placement of inventory, according to a logical way to sort by products.

A few factors drove the company to move forward with its K.Motion Warehouse Edge (WMS) (formerly HighJump Warehouse Edge) warehouse management project, particularly a growth of sales and product quantity, as well as a warehouse expansion of 90,000 square feet. Thus, Structube wanted to solve the following problems:

  • Imprecise knowledge of inventory levels;
  • Low production rate of the labour force;
  • High rate of errors during order picking;
  • Delivery time longer than clients’ expectations.

However, the main objective of the project was to update Microsoft Dynamics NAV solutions and K.Motion Warehouse Edge (WMS). Structube wanted to use one system to manage overall sales (Dynamics NAV), related to a solution which can take over the warehouse management and shipment of products (K.Motion Warehouse Edge WMS).

Moreover, the company wanted to add a module for retail which combines points of sale (POS), multiple channel management, in-store activities, commercialization, and the supply chain.

Process Automation Benefits

Process automation has brought a range of benefits to Structube regarding warehouse management, including:

  • Minimizing staff decisions to save time;
  • Managing batches proficiently (many boxes to assemble the same product);
  • Accelerating task accomplishment thanks to a better layout of products.

Why Talan?

The synergy between Talan’s business units attracted Structube. Talan has the skills and expertise that allowed our client to obtain a complete and integrated service for the implementation of an ERP (Dynamics NAV) solution and a WMS system, in addition to getting valuable advice on logistics.

Achieving the Goals

The update and the complete integration between Microsoft Dynamics NAV and K.Motion Warehouse Edge (WMS) now enable Structube to count on an optimal solution to meet its present and future operational needs. Structube has made financial gains as a result of:

  • An increase in employees’ productivity;
  • Minimization of preparation errors;
  • Better inventory accuracy.
