Mondou’s Successful Migration from WM to SAP EWM S/4HANA
A Legacy of Growth and Commitment: Mondou's Journey to Industry Leadership
Established in 1938, Mondou is a Quebec family business that provides products, services and advice in regard to animal health and welfare. Since the acquisition of this proud Quebec company by the Legault family in 1983, Mondou has seen their number of branches increase from one to almost eighty, thanks to the exceptional commitment of their passionate employees, of whom there are now more than 1,100 across the province.
In recent years, the Legault Group has integrated vertically, particularly with the growth of the Mondou network and the acquisition of Ren’s Pets. Leveraging its pan-Canadian retail network, multiple brands and local manufacturing facilities, the Legault Group became a true benchmark in the industry.
Pet Affection as a Panacea to the Pandemic
Far from having had no impact, COVID-19 led to new behaviors and new expectations from consumers. Between the pursuit of new hobbies and the urban exodus, many people turned to expanding their family by adopting a pet, to break the solitude and loneliness caused by the lockdown. Of course, these new adoptive parents had to care for their favorite furball, spoil them and provide them with the very best living conditions. And so, that is what led to the increase in popularity for Mondou’s offering.
What’s more, e-commerce increased in popularity due to the health crisis, and took a dominant position in the consumption cycle. In reality, consumers who were initially not too keen on online purchasing were seduced by its many advantages: increased accessibility to thorough product information, inventory visibility, home delivery, order status monitoring, etc. The uptake of online purchasing practices by a huge number of people exerted significant pressure on Mondou’s logistic chain.
Faced with this new reality, the company had to adapt to ensure its customers get the best experience possible. They had to review their storage strategy in order to optimize order processing, inventory management and distribution structure. Migrating toward SAP EWM (Entreprise Warehouse Management) emerged as an obvious choice.
Mondou’s Digital Journey
In 2009, Mondou was using SAP ECC 6.0. The company then implemented an award program relying on customer loyalty and satisfaction via special offers and customer data collection. In 2018, Mondou migrated to SAP S/4HANA to allow their system to evolve seamlessly, and prepare it for future required enhancements. In 2021, the company upgraded the latest version of SAP S/4HANA to leverage the most recent EWM functionalities, and better meet new customer needs.
SAP EWM for a Flexible and Scalable Supply Chain
Thanks to this migration, Mondou now benefits from a supply chain that will evolve alongside the company, which wasn’t the case with WM, a 25-year-old platform whose evolution had peaked. With annual SAP EWM upgrades taking place simultaneously with S/4HANA, the Legault Group now enjoys greater agility. This also integrates well into the digital transformation strategy the company had undertaken in the last few months.
A Longstanding Partnership
If the process went smoothly, it is thanks to the trusting relationship between Talan and Mondou. Indeed, Talan has been Mondou’s SAP partner since 2009. This display of confidence results from the ongoing support of Talan consultants through every stage of Mondou’s growth.
