Meeting with Sylvain Weber, consultant at Talan!

In this testimony, Sylvain Weber tells us about his experience as a consultant at Talan.

Can you tell us about your professional background?

Sure, I have been a consultant at Talan for three years now. My professional journey began 20 years ago as a Java developer at a software publisher in Lyon. Since then, I have worked at a web agency as a technical referent, as well as in a service company where I held various technical positions.

And what projects are you currently working on at Talan?

Currently, I am working on two projects for large companies in the energy sector. In the first project, I am a Tech Lead for an application overhaul in the form of micro-services in the Java ecosystem. This is a project that I started since my arrival at Talan. In the second project, which has just started for a duration of six months, I am the technical architect for a study of replacement solutions for aging applications.

And is it good?

Yes, it's exciting!

How do you feel about your work at Talan?

I really like my work at Talan because the role of Tech Lead requires various skills, including technical mastery, pedagogy, and assertive communication. The second project I am currently working on allows me to take a step back on architecture choices and find convincing arguments in favor of recommended solutions.

What is your favorite time of day?

My favorite time of day is in the morning when I start working. It's when I have the most energy and feel the most efficient.

If you had to explain your job to a 10-year-old, how would you describe it?

If I had to explain my job to a 10-year-old, I would say that my work consists of understanding how a computer program works, building pieces of it myself, and ensuring that it continues to work all the time. I have to make sure that the pieces of the program are easy to modify or replace if they no longer work well enough. Finally, I have to regularly learn the best new techniques to be as effective as possible.

What does "innovate" mean to you?

To me, "innovate" means "improve" with new techniques that are not yet widespread or known in a given profession. This allows a company to bring value through a new perspective that will set it apart from its competitors. At Talan, we are fortunate to be at the forefront of these innovations and we take advantage of them to contribute!
